氣動(P NEUMATIC )是“氣動技術”或“氣壓傳動與控制”的簡稱。氣動技術是以空氣壓縮機為動力源,以壓縮空氣為工作介質,進行能量傳遞或信號傳遞的工程技術,是實現各種生產控制、自動控制的重要手段之一。 人們利用空氣的能量完成各種工作的歷史可以追溯到遠古,但作為氣動技術應用的雛形,大約開始子1776 年John Wilkinson 發明能產生1個大氣壓左右壓力的空氣壓縮機。1880年,人們第一次利用氣缸做成氣動剎車裝置,將它成功地用到火車的制動上。上世紀30年代初。氣動技術成功地應用于自動門的開閉及各種機械的輔助動作上。進入到60 年代尤其是70 年代初,隨著工業機械化和自動化的發展,氣動技術才廣泛應用在生產自動化的各個領域,形成現代氣動技術。
